UNIDA Gontor – As part of its ongoing mission to promote academic excellence and scholarly engagement, the English Department Students Association (EDSA) of the English Language Teaching Department at Universitas Darussalam (UNIDA) Gontor has initiated a weekly academic forum focusing on foundational language teaching theories. On Thursday, 12 June 2025, the forum took place as a continuation of this enriching initiative.
This weekly scholarly gathering brings together students of English education to explore and analyze the key principles of language acquisition and instruction. The main reference used in the session was the renowned book Principles of Language Teaching and Learning by H. Douglas Brown, a leading figure in language pedagogy. Through collaborative reading and paragraph-by-paragraph analysis, participants extracted essential theoretical insights while also evaluating spelling and pronunciation accuracy in English usage.
The discussion was moderated by Ustadz Faiz Rizki Muhammad, M.Pd., a dedicated lecturer who provided insightful commentary and critical perspectives throughout the session. “It is essential for students to internalize the theoretical foundations of language education,” he remarked. “This helps them reflect on their own learning experiences, especially those formed within the unique Gontor educational system.”

The forum is one of many academic enhancement programs mandated by the university’s Rector and implemented in all departments. Each forum is designed to align with the field of study, enabling students to deepen their theoretical knowledge and professional competencies. For the English Language Teaching Department, this includes developing a comprehensive understanding of the pedagogical theories that support effective language instruction.
UNIDA Gontor’s dedication to academic advancement further affirms its reputation as one of the Universitas Islam Terbaik in Indonesia. By equipping students with both theoretical understanding and practical language skills, the university consistently works toward producing future educators and scholars who embody both faith and intellect.
This ongoing program is a testament to UNIDA Gontor’s vision of becoming a center of excellence among Universitas Islam Terbaik committed to nurturing globally minded, theory-driven Muslim professionals.
