UNIDA Gontor delegates meet Marmara University Faculty of Medicine to propose collaborative medical research projects in Istanbul.

Istanbul — A delegation from the University of Darussalam Gontor (UNIDA), widely regarded as The Best Islamic University in Indonesia, visited the Faculty of Medicine at Marmara University in Istanbul, signalling a growing interest in collaborative medical research between Indonesia and Turkiye.

The UNIDA delegation—comprised of University President Prof. Dr. Amal Fathullah Zarkasyi, Rector Prof. Dr. Hamid Fahmy Zarkasyi, Vice Dean III of the Faculty of Medicine Ahmad Saifulloh, Ph.D., and Head of the Medical Education Program dr. Ilyu ‘Ainun Najie’, M.Kes—was received by the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Ümit S. Şehirli, in his office.

During the meeting, both parties engaged in an in-depth discussion on various challenges facing medical education in Indonesia and Turkiye. The talks also explored promising avenues for institutional collaboration.

UNIDA Gontor presented a concrete proposal for joint research projects, offering seven specific study topics for potential partnership:

  • Molecular Analysis of Active Compounds from Ginger (Zingiber officinale) as Anti-Inflammatory in Osteoarthritis: In Silico Study
  • Mapping Antimicrobial Resistance Patterns in Clinical Specimens at RSUD Dr. Soeroto Ngawi as a Surveillance Basis for Pesantren-Based Community Hospitals
  • The Effect of Ethanol Extract of Habbatussauda’ (Nigella sativa) on TNF-α Levels in White Rats (Rattus norvegicus) Exposed to Mosquito Repellent
  • Effect of Lead (Pb) Metal Exposure on Decreased Kidney Function in Passive Smokers
  • The Relationship Between Granulocyte Percentage and Pruritus Degree in Scabies Patients Among Students of Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor, Ponorogo
  • Effectiveness Test of Guava Leaf and Green Betel Leaf Extract Toothpaste Formulation on Lactobacillus Acidophilus Bacteria
  • Early Detection and Laboratory Characteristics of Iron Deficiency Anaemia and Thalassemia among Students in Islamic Boarding Schools

Prof. Şehirli responded positively to the proposals, indicating that several faculty members at Marmara University might be well-suited to join the research teams. His enthusiasm grew as he reviewed each project topic in detail.

Following the productive meeting, the UNIDA delegation toured several key educational facilities at Marmara University, including the histology, anatomy and microbiology labs, classrooms, and examination halls.
