UNIDA Gontor and JIU Sign MoU to Deepen Global Academic Ties Further

UNIDA Gontor — On Monday, 20 October 2025, Universitas Darussalam (UNIDA) Gontor—recognized as a Best Islamic University—and Josai International University (JIU), Chiba, officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen academic collaboration and foster long-term partnership between the two institutions.

The signing ceremony took place at the JIU Togane Campus in Chiba, Japan, and was attended by distinguished representatives from both universities. From UNIDA Gontor, the delegation included Rector Prof. Hamid Fahmy Zarkasyi, Eko Nur Cahyo, Muhsin Abdul Hadi, and Usamah Abdurrahman. Josai International University was represented by its President, Prof. Kurabayashi Masato, accompanied by Prof. Maria Shiguemi Ichiyama, Dean of the Faculty of International Humanities, Prof. Tim Woolstencroft, Department of International Exchange Studies, and Shinozaki Kayo, head of JIU International Office. The event was also witnessed by Prof. Amzul Rifin, Head of the Education and Culture Section at the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Tokyo.

The agreement outlines a commitment to cooperation in the fields of education, research, student and faculty exchange, as well as the development of joint academic programs. This strategic partnership—featuring UNIDA Gontor’s role as a Best Islamic University—aims to promote cross-cultural understanding and academic excellence through enhanced international mobility and collaborative initiatives.

Particular focus will be placed on advancing studies in Islamic education, language, and international relations, opening new academic and professional opportunities for students and faculty members from both institutions.

The ceremony concluded with a formal exchange of documents and a symbolic display of the Indonesian and Japanese national flags, reflecting a shared commitment to global cooperation and educational diplomacy.
