UNIDA Gontor, February 17th, 2025 – The Department of English Language Teaching (TBI), Faculty of Tarbiyah, Universitas Darussalam Gontor (UNIDA Gontor), conducted a community service. The activity focused on enhancing public speaking skills. This initiative was specifically designed for members of the PKK (Empowerment of Family Welfare) Team and village officials of Kepuhrubuh, Siman, Ponorogo.
Held at the Kepuhrubuh Village Hall, the training was attended by approximately 40 participants. They are including head of village, PKK members, and other local representatives. The primary objective of this program was to complement participants with effective communication skills. Also, boost their confidence in public speaking, and introduce techniques for delivering structured and persuasive speeches.
Throughout the session, trainers from TBI UNIDA Gontor guided participants through various aspects of public speaking. Such as voice modulation, body language, audience engagement, and structuring a compelling speech. Practical exercises and interactive activities incorporated to ensure that participants could apply the skills they learned in real-life scenarios.
Many participants expressed their enthusiasm for the program. They were highlighting how public speaking skills are essential in their daily responsibilities. Especially, in village meetings, community discussions, or organizing events. One of the participants, a village official, stated, “This training has been incredibly valuable. It has given us the confidence to speak clearly and effectively in front of the community.”

This initiative is part of the university’s ongoing commitment to community service, particularly in empowering local leaders and community representatives with essential communication skills. The ability to communicate effectively is crucial for leaders to deliver messages, inspire action, and foster a sense of unity within the community.
The Head of the Department of English Language Teaching (TBI UNIDA Gontor) emphasized the importance of such training programs, stating, “Public speaking is a vital skill, especially for those in leadership positions. We hope that through this training, village officials and PKK members will feel more confident in their ability to engage with the community and drive positive change.”
Given the positive response from participants, the university aims to continue similar community service programs in the future, expanding to other villages and community groups. Plans are already in discussion for follow-up sessions focusing on advanced communication skills, leadership development, and effective team collaboration.
By strengthening public speaking skills at the grassroots level, Universitas Darussalam Gontor hopes to contribute to the development of more confident and capable community leaders, ultimately fostering greater community engagement and progress.
