Entrepreneurship Seminar Strengthens Edupreneur Mindset of English Language Teaching Students at UNIDA Gontor

UNIDA Gontor – On Tuesday, October 21, 2025, the English Language Teaching Program, Faculty of Tarbiyah, Universitas Darussalam (UNIDA) Gontor held an Entrepreneurship Seminar at Siroh Nabawiyah Hall. The program was coordinated by the chief executive, Dzil Izzat Kurniawan, with full support from the academic community, as well as guidance from Al-Ustadz Bekti Galih Kurniawan, M.Pd. and Head of the English Language Teaching Program, Al-Ustadz Aries Fachriza, M.Pd. The seminar aimed to strengthen students’ entrepreneurial mindset in line with the vision of UNIDA Gontor as an Islamic university that produces intellectual, independent, and productive graduates.

This entrepreneurship seminar presented a competent speaker, Al-Ustadz Dian Nashrul Munif, M.Pd., who delivered a comprehensive explanation of market research strategies, business models, business needs analysis, and marketing planning. Participants were guided step by step to start business planning through market research using search engines such as Google, analyzing trends of goods and services needed by society, and observing business opportunities within a 1–2 km radius of their surrounding environment.

The speaker also provided practical training on how to determine realistic and applicable business ideas. The materials included product analysis for items that are not yet available but highly needed by the market, exploration of top-selling products on e-commerce platforms (such as Shopee Top 10), and exercises in preparing a Business Model Canvas. Students were then directed to choose business types based on goods or services, including sustainable culinary businesses like coffee bottles, barbershop services, and franchise models such as Rocket Chicken, Hisana, and Geprek brands as examples of effective market penetration strategies.

Furthermore, participants learned how to design capital strategies, both through small capital that grows gradually and larger, more aggressive capital allocation for faster expansion. The seminar also emphasized the importance of building business relationships and cooperation with bigger companies to achieve efficiency in pricing and distribution. In the marketing session, the speaker highlighted promotional strategies through direct selling and digital marketing, including the concept of “burn money” in the early stages of promotion to build brand awareness and expand consumer reach.

This activity also stressed the importance of business risk management through mitigation strategies. Students were introduced to anticipatory steps such as changing the target market, adjusting prices, or scaling up the business gradually when facing operational obstacles. Through this entrepreneurship training, the English Language Teaching Program reinforced the graduate profile of the English Language Study Program as edupreneurs: education graduates who possess an entrepreneurial spirit in the fields of education and technology-based creative industries, with strong Islamic character, morals, integrity, and social responsibility.

By the end of the seminar, students gained broader business insights, a stronger analytical and research-based entrepreneurial mentality, and increased awareness of economic independence. This Entrepreneurship Seminar became one of the concrete implementations of UNIDA Gontor’s commitment to developing entrepreneurial competencies among English Language Teaching students, in order to prepare them to compete in the world of education, creative industries, and the global market.
