Gontor – “At this time, it is hard to deny the fact that Asia and Africa are still living under colonialism; in this case, colonialism is not in the physical form but in intellectual and academic terms. Thus, it is expected that this International conference is able improve the quality of human resources and advance civilization”, said Rector of UNIDA Gontor, Prof. Dr. KH Amal Fathullah Zarkasyi, M.A. at the opening speech of the International Conference of Afro-Asian Universities Forum (AAUF) on Sunday (22/7) at Meeting Hall of Darussalam Gontor Islamic Institution.
Prof. Amal also expressed his gratitude for the trust given by the Board Members to AAUF by appointing UNIDA Gontor as the new AAUF headquarter. He added, “It is a great honor for UNIDA Gontor and our country Indonesia to host the AAUF International Conference using the theme “The Role of African-Asian Universities in Building Civilization.”
The conference was opened by Mrs. Retno Marsudi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia. The opening of the conference was attended by invited guests consisting of rectors from 10 countries as well as rectors from Indonesia universities. In addition, there were UNIDA Gontor lecturers and students as well as students of Darussalam Gontor Modern Islamic Institution.
“AAUF is a forum initiated by 21 universities in Asia and Africa three years ago,” said Prof. Dr. KH Amal Fathullah Zarkasyi, M.A. The conference has been held twice and this is the third.
