Vice President Agrees to be Member of AAUF Advisory Board
Jakarta – Members of Afro-Asian University Forum (AAUF) meet Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia Mr. Jusuf Kalla (JK) at Istana Merdeka, Jakarta, today (24/7). At least 15 university leaders from 10 countries attended the meeting. After listening to the report of AAUF International Conference delivered by Rector of UNIDA Gontor, Prof. Dr. Amal Fathullah Zarkasyi, Mr. Jusuf Kalla appreciated the programs. During the meeting, general secretary of AAUF, Prof. Ashraf, requested JK to serve as a member of the AAUF Advisory Board.
“We request Mr. Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia to serve as a member of the AAUF Advisory Board,” said the AAUF General Secretary. JK nodded his head and said that he is ready and will give full support. He signed a document prepared by the AAUF General Secretary as a token of his membership in the AAUF Advisory Board. This session was immediately followed by members of AAUF’s applause.
In his speech, the Vice President invited all universities as AAUF members to support the establishment of International Islamic University in Indonesia. “We are building International Islamic University in Jakarta in the near future. Hence, I invite all AAUF members to teach at the university and please enroll your students to the university,” said JK.
JK also expressed his optimism that the collaborative programs involving Asian and African universities will be able to improve the quality of education in Asian and African countries and unite the Islamic countries. [Saifullah / Ed. Taufiq / Trans. Eka / Ed. Nurrahma]
