Commemorating PKI rebellion day, UNIDA Gontor watchs G30S/ PKI documentary film
UNIDA GONTOR – Darussalam Gontor Modern Islamic Institution was one of the targets of the Indonesian Communist Party (PKI) Madiun rebellion in 1948. Buildings, Arabic books as well as Al-Qu’ran were burned, even the santri and Kyai were threatened with death if they did not join PKI. Fortunately, they managed to escape from the pursuit and confrontation of PKI. Heritage buildings or Pendopo (the center of Javanese building) and Al-Atiq Mosque in Gontor were silent witnesses of the dark history of PKI rebellion.
University of Darussalam Gontor through the Guardian Directorate, in collaboration with the Student Council (DEMA) as well as Student Regiment (MENWA) watched G30SPKI documentary film on Sunday, 30 September 2018/ 20 Muharam 1440 attended by the entire academic community. It was done to commemorate the Communism Movement which was known as G30SPKI. The aim was to remind everyone and give alerts towards PKI which became a dark history for Indonesians and a dangerous latent which cannot be tolerated in this country which has Pancasila as its ideology.
This year is the second year of watching a film together held at the UNIDA Gontor Main Campus in which this activity is fully supported by Rector of University of Darussalam Gontor Prof. Dr. Amal Fathullah Zarkasyi, M.A. The rector who is the son of the founder of Gontor said that Gontor fully supports the annual screening of G30S/ PKI Film so that the present and future generations know the dangers of PKI as a dark history for this nation due to its rebellion.
The event started at 8:00 am and began with the reading of the Qur’an verses by Muzakky Muhammad, a Menwa member who is in the first semester of Communication Science Study Program. It was continued by speech from Vice Rector II Dr. Setiawan Bin Lahuri, MA and followed by speech from Vice Rector III Dr. Muhammad Hafidz Zaid, M.A. The last speech continued by prayer was delivered by Dr. Ahmad Hidayatullah Zarkasyi, M.A. who is a son of Gontor founder.
The film lasted for 4 hours starting from 8:30 a.m. to 13:30 p.m. The event was welcomed enthusiastically by the entire academic community of UNIDA Gontor.
